How many do I need and of what type?
Individual needs will differ depending on the potential threat (depth and occurrence of water) and the size and type of property you live in. Consider the number of doors and other openings (such as air bricks), you wish to protect. Don’t forget internal doorways - many properties are built on different levels and you may need to protect a section of the floor area. Un-expanded bags can be used to ‘mop up’ water seeping through structures or main defences.
The general purpose ‘sand bag’ size bag will expand to a height of between 100 - 130 mm or 4 - 5 inches, the door bags slightly less to between 90 - 100 mm. The base area of the bags will expand slightly.
The Home Emergency packs provide a mix of bag types which can be supplemented by individual packs.
The long boom bags are principally used for diverting water away from properties; for example on drive ways. They can also be used for containing hazardous liquid waste spillages.
